Panasonic has unveiled the latest addition to its LUMIX S Series, the LUMIX S9, marking a significant stride in the realm of compact full-frame mirrorless cameras. The LUMIX S9, hailed as the smallest and lightest in the series, offers a sleek, stylish option for content creators on the move, available in Jet Black, Crimson Red, Dark Olive, and Dark Silver.
Advanced Imaging Capabilities
The LUMIX S9 features an approx. 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, akin to the one found in the LUMIX S5II, coupled with the latest imaging engine. This combination ensures detailed, natural-toned images. The camera is also equipped with Phase Detection Auto-Focus (PDAF) for precise subject tracking and Active I.S. to minimize blurring from camera shake, allowing for confident handheld shooting in various conditions.
Enhanced Creative Control
A standout feature of the LUMIX S9 is its REAL TIME LUT function, accessible via a dedicated ‘LUT’ button. This allows users to apply popular, classic, or bespoke color styles directly in-camera. Additionally, the new LUMIX Lab app enables users to create unique LUT color files on their smartphones, facilitating the generation and sharing of original stills and videos without post-production editing on a computer.
New Recording Format and Connectivity
The LUMIX S9 introduces the MP4 Lite recording format, shooting Open Gate in 4:2:0 10-bit at 30p/25p. This format is optimized for smartphone use, allowing easy resizing for social media via the LUMIX Lab app. Enhanced data transfer speeds from the camera to a smartphone further streamline the workflow for content creators.
The LUMIX S9 was officially launched on May 29, 2024, at AfterOne, Kuala Lumpur. During the event, Mr. Takahiro Oyama, Deputy Managing Director of Panasonic Appliances Marketing Asia Pacific, emphasized the camera’s role as a creative companion. “The new LUMIX S9 is more than another piece of technology to facilitate content creation. It is designed to be your creative companion. The photos and videos captured eternalize not just memories, but stories unique to one’s life – and this camera makes this process far more intuitive and seamless,” he shared.

Alongside the LUMIX S9, Panasonic introduced the LUMIX S 26mm F8 (S-R26) lens, priced at RM 1,099. This compact, lightweight pancake lens is designed for casual and creative shooting with its fixed 26mm focal length and manual focus. Additionally, the upcoming LUMIX S 18-40mm F4.5-6.3 lens will soon join the full-frame LUMIX S Series, offering versatile focal lengths and ultra-wide-angle capabilities ideal for a range of shooting scenarios.
Distributed by Shriyo Marketing, the LUMIX S9 is available for pre-order at RM 7,599 for the DC-S9GA Body alone and RM 8,999 for the DC-S9KGA with an R2060 Lens. Pre-orders from retail outlets (May 30 to June 30, 2024) are available in Jet Black and Dark Olive, while those from Lazada or Shopee (June 6 to June 30, 2024) are available in Jet Black and Crimson Red. All pre-orders come with a SmallRig L-Shape Handle, a battery pack, and a 64GB SanDisk Extreme Pro SD Card as free gifts.
