New range features replaceable batteries, Bluetooth 6.0 and spatial audio, with prices from RM999

Sennheiser today announced three new personal audio products for the Malaysian market: the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless over-ear headphones, the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 earbuds and the ACCENTUM Clip open-ear earbuds. The consumer range is run by Sonova Consumer Hearing under licence from Sennheiser.

Repairability takes centre stage

The MOMENTUM pair share a focus on longevity. Both are the first in the series with user-replaceable batteries, which owners can swap in minutes with a small screwdriver. The over-ear model uses a 700 mAh cell, while the earbuds allow replacement in both the buds and the wireless charging case.

Lilika Beck, President of Sennheiser Consumer Audio, said high-performance sound and environmental responsibility “can and must” exist in the same product. Packaging for the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless is plastic-free, and its storage case is 20% smaller.

MOMENTUM 5 Wireless (RM1,999)

The headphones keep the 42mm transducer of their predecessor, made in Tullamore, Ireland, and add Hi-Res Audio certification and Snapdragon Sound support with codecs up to aptX Lossless. Sennheiser says the upgraded noise cancelling is up to three times more effective against distracting voices, helped by four microphones per side, double the previous number. Battery life is up to 57 hours with ANC on.

The headphones ship with Bluetooth 5.4. Dolby Atmos with head-tracking and Bluetooth 6.0 support are due through future firmware updates. They come in Black, White and Denim.

MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 (RM1,699)

Billed as the brand’s most advanced earbuds, they use a 7mm TrueResponse driver and Bluetooth 6.0 with aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless support. Sennheiser says they are fully optimised for Dolby Atmos with head-tracking, and they use six microphones and two bone-conduction sensors to capture voices in noisy places.

They offer up to 12 hours of playback per charge and up to 40 hours with the Qi wireless charging case. An 8-minute quick charge gives up to an hour of listening. The finless, IP54-rated design was rated more comfortable than the previous generation by 73% of testers, according to the company. They come in five metallic colours.

ACCENTUM Clip (RM999)

The most affordable of the three is an open-ear design that keeps the wearer aware of their surroundings without electronic pass-through modes. Each earbud weighs 6.8g and has a 12mm dynamic driver. The set is Hi-Res Audio Wireless certified and supports SBC, AAC and LDAC.

The Clip offers 9 hours of playback per charge and up to 36 hours with the case. A 10-minute charge gives two hours of listening. It has an IP54 rating, Bluetooth 6.0 with multipoint connectivity, and dual microphones with AI noise reduction for calls. It comes in Black and Cream.

Jake Chia, General Manager of Sonova Consumer Hearing Singapore, said the Clip aims to lift the sound quality that open earbuds have traditionally struggled with.
