BMW Group Malaysia commemorates ‘100 Years of BMW Motorrad’ with a special BMW R18 Centennial Ride.

BMW R 18 owners in Malaysia embarked on a centennial ride with BMW Motorrad Malaysia to celebrate 100 years of the ‘Make Life a Ride’ spirit, one that is passion- and community-driven.

BMW Group Malaysia recently hosted the BMW R 18 owners’ community for a centennial ride across the heart of Kuala Lumpur, where over 45 owners and enthusiasts came together to commemorate the 100th anniversary of BMW Motorrad this year. BMW R 18 owners from across the country rendezvoused at their respective dealer’s showrooms in the morning before departing as a group for Hotel Stripes Kuala Lumpur, where a luxurious gastronomical experience awaited them.

100 glorious years ago, Chief Designer Max Friz designed the first BMW motorcycle that was showcased at the German Motor Show on 28 September 1923. He was followed by designers, racers and pioneers who also challenged the status quo. A year later, Rudolf Schleicher played a leading role in the development of the BMW R 37’s engine, the first BMW Motorrad sports model. Hans A. Muth became a designer at BMW Motorrad for the first time in 1971 and put his passion for speed on the road with the first BMW Motorrad superbike in 1973.
